I am elated to announce the African Spirit Academy’s first course, Ifá Divination, Sacrifice, and Òrìsà (Orisha) Worship in the Ifá Religion. The African Spirit Academy (ASA) is our flagship platform designed to present premium educational content about Ifá, Vodou, African spirituality, and related topics. Currently, ASA provides premier courses on the Asanee 44 and Udemy websites. Though we intend to continuously expand our outreach, as appropriate. See below for a more detailed overview of ASA’s first course.
Ifa Divination
This course explores the Ifá religion, emphasizing its central practices. Particularly, it examines Ifá divination, sacrifice, and Òrìsà worship in Yorùbá society. In this course, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the Ifá divination system. Ifá divination involves a complex process that includes the interpretation of Odu Ifá, or sacred verses that provide guidance and wisdom.

Ebo or Sacrifice
Another significant component of the course is the practice of sacrifice, known as ebo. This practice is integral to maintaining balance and harmony. Students explore the various elements of ebo, their purposes, and the protocols involved in offering sacrifices to the deities. They learn about the materials used, such as animals, food, and other offerings, and how to properly present them to deities.

Orisha Worship
The course also covers the intricate dynamics involved in Òrìsà worship. Òrìsàs are deities that represent natural forces and aspects of life. Students delve into the rich mythology associated with Orunmila, Esu, Aje, and Ori. They learn about the interpretation of stories and legends that have been passed down through generations. These narratives provide context for understanding the characteristics and roles of the deities in the Yorùbá spiritual framework.
Summary
By engaging in this course, students learn to appreciate the spiritual depth and complexity of the Ifá religion. The course aims to equip learners with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It provides a holistic understanding of Orisha worship with a special emphasis on Orunmila, Esu, Aje, and Ori. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper appreciation and understanding of how to engage in Òrìsà worship.
